It fits in my backpack very nicely very easy to set up, and that’s what I’m going to show you here in this article of how easy this tent is to set up. BIG AGNES TIGER WALL UL TENT REVIEW / The best ultralight backpacking tent

Welcome back to the blog guys! So today we’re going to be reviewing the Big Agnes tiger walls, UL, three-person, ultralight, backpacking, tent. The BEST BUDGET Tent? Naturehike Cloud-Up 2 Lightweight 2-Person 4-Season Backpacking Tent

Are you looking for a tent to go out backpack in this season? Hopefully something a little bit lightweight and maybe something even budget-friendly? Well, today, we’re going to take a look at a tent from nature hike. It’s called the cloud up. It’s an upgraded edition. I’ll show you what that means. So stay tuned, we’ll check out this quality budget-friendly tent thanks for reading, so I was contacted by nature hike and they sent me this tent out.

They said check it out and give us an honest review on your YouTube blog, and I said I absolutely love to do that. If you read my blog, you know I do a lot of budget related articles. I really want people to be able to enjoy the outdoors and not have to spend tons of money. This tent definitely fits the bill. This article is about looking at the specs, see how easily it goes up showing y’all how that works in case you’re interested in buying this particular tent.

Now, it’s just too hot guys, it’s too hot to spend the night in the woods. It’s like 85 degrees at night. It’s just not fun! So I’m not spending the night in the woods in this tent tonight, but stay tuned later in the fall. We’re going to go on a couple of overnights we’re going to be testing out several tents that I have. One of them is this one. So there are two places to purchase this tent. One is from aliexpress it’s kind of the Amazon of China.

You can buy it cheaper there. It just takes longer to get it. You can buy for about a hundred two hundred and ten dollars. Sometimes you can even get free shipping. You can also buy it on Amazon anywhere from 110 to 145 dollars, depending on what particular color you want. You also can get it on Prime sometime, so I would say somewhere between 100 to 140 dollars. You can get this at Amazon. That’s a pretty good deal.

Look into the dimensions it’s 15 and a half inches folded up by five inches; okay, so pretty compact, it’s actually built it’s about forty, nine by eighty two and a half by thirty nine. That gives you some rough dimensions and we’ll take a look at it here. In a second, as far as material goes, it is made out of a 20 D, SIL nylon, very high quality feeling SIL nylon. The poles themselves are a fairly lightweight aluminum.

It’s a double sided Y shape. That’s the improved or updated version of this. The original version of the cloud up to had one Y only in the front, this one has two eyes also in the back you’ll, see that when we put it up as far as what the tent comes with, it actually comes with a separate ground sheet. Okay, that adds weight, but it does add some to the security, because you do want to make sure you don’t put it on the ground without taking all the stickies up, because you could poke into that 20 D nylon pretty easily the actual stuff sack for the Tent itself comes with, the poles comes with.

Stakes comes with eight stakes and a little bit of extra line, so you can stake it down really well in the wind. It also, of course, comes with the fly and the tent itself. The tent body now I’ll put some of the specific specific weights over here. I’m just going to give you all some generalities the weights. The way I look at it, the body of the tent itself is a little bit under a pound. Okay, it’s about 15 ounces, something around those lines.

The fly itself is about one pound about 16 ounces. Our poles are fairly heavy as well. Those are about one pound about 16 ounces as well. That gives you about three pounds. Roughly okay, then you’re. Looking at the stakes themselves, these particular stakes – the stake bag itself weighs, I believe, four and a half ounces. Now that’s a place. You can save a lot of weight, we’ll talk about that later.

So when I weighed it straight from when they sent it to me, it was three pounds: six ounces, not including the ground sheet, which it weighs an additional 16 ounces. I wouldn’t use it when I take it out on the trail. I would come up with something much lighter, it’s very easy to do that, but just giving you guys a general idea, the pack weight of the tent itself, three pounds: six ounces straight out of the box, we’ll talk later on how to make that lighter.

Now, let’s put this thing up, so here’s the tin itself with the fly as you can see, it’s a freestanding tent, very easy, took me about first time ever put it together. It still took me about three or four minutes, pretty simple to do before we put the fly on, let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the details of just the tent body itself: nice big front door. Here, okay, it’s got a zipper. That goes all the way around the top.

It’s got good height, as you can see I’ll get in here in a second. You guys can see how tall it is. It’s got a nice amount of room here for the tub itself. I’d say it’s about three and a half inches for the tub so that it stays relatively out of the water. If you’re in a lot of rain, there’s that back Y – and you can see the backside of the tent itself, you can see that this is pretty high arching, that particular pole right.

There has a nice built-in arch and it works very, very well to keep it up off of you all right. I’m going to get inside show you all what kind of room we have. So here we go inside the tent. I don’t know if you can see. I’m six one: okay and I’m going to try not to get this thing dirty, but you will see very clearly that I’ve got more than enough room to lay flat back. I’ve got several inches on top here and my feet fit in very nicely again.

I’m trying not to get it dirty, but there’s plenty of headroom here, which is nice. If you’re utilizing this as a one person tent technically, two people can fit in here without question, especially an adult and a child, which I think’s, where I would use it. The most but two sleeping pads will fit in here it’s cramped, but especially if it’s cold that would be nice. It’s got some nice features like you can take this door and toggle it back.

It’s got a nice little toggle here, okay, so you can keep it out of the way in camp. It’s got a little hook inside here which allows you to hang a light or a lantern or something that’s really really nice. I’m going to go ahead and put on the fly, show you how easy it is to do that. You can see how easily you can attach the fly itself. It just locks in you can easily adjust it. Both the ground, tarp and the tent body have snaps.

So that gives you flexibility to use the fly with just the ground, tarp and say wait. Another nice feature is this: you can snap this on okay to connect the tent body with the fly itself. That does two things. It keeps the fly on obviously, but it also when you stake out the fly, it pulls the tent body away, just a little bit to give you a little bit more room inside another nice features back here.

This is the back side of the tent. It’s got this little piece of kind of almost cardboard e material, and you just put this here and it basically creates a little tent okay. So you can allow plenty of circulation. It’s got mesh back here behind it. You can’t see that, but this just gives you a little bit of ventilation. Nice little touch so here it is fully staked out pretty much it’s not perfect by any means, but quickly done.

You can see it’s very nice tent. It does come with two additional stakes and you can pull out. There’s two pull outs, one here, one on the other side. You can pull it out to give yourself a little more room. I didn’t put those up. So that’s a very quick look at the nature. Hike cloud up to upgraded version, we talked about what the upgrade means. It’s those two Y’s on the poles themselves. I think it does aid the tent itself have more room inside very, very nice added feature.

First, impressions of this tent are its pretty high quality. Obviously, it’s not as high quality, something you’re going to spend four or five hundred dollars on, but the whole point of the tent is that you don’t want to spend four or five hundred dollars. If you take care of this tent, I think it’s going to last. You a long time if you abuse it and you don’t take good care of it. You don’t prepare the floor.

Well, you lets things. Stick up underneath it like any tent you’re going to ruin it you’re, going to ruin it fast. If you take care of it, though you’re in good shape, zippers are well-made. The tie outs are all very good. I really like the fact that both the ground tarp and the tent body itself have the clip ons. So, like I said earlier, if you want to take this tent out, you don’t have to worry about bugs.

You don’t need the actual tent body you can take. Just the ground sheet and the fly pop it together and you’re going to have just about a two pound shelter which isn’t too bad it’s relatively lightweight. Overall, I think you can trim the weight down in particular, I think the best place is first of all. Is the ground tarp itself? I think you can use Tyvek or something a lot lighter for this, and it will work a lot better.

You also can just choose your site really really well and make sure if it’s just a grassy site, you don’t need a ground sheet. That would be great, but you need to know where you’re backpacking to make sure you can do that. The other big area I think you can save is on the tent stakes. These tent stakes, like I said, they’re, eight stakes, they’re about four and a half ounces. You can easily cut that back to about two ounces or even less.

If you get titanium stakes, I recommend their carbon fiber stakes, I’ll, put a link down below to them. You can buy them at Z, pax dot-com, they’re by point two ounces each and what I like about them is their have a thicker diameter. The titanium stakes like the little hooks, if you tie things down pretty tight, you can easily bend those, especially if you have really really hard soil, so I would suggest those carbon fiber ones.

I think they’re better they’re about, like I said, point 2 ounces. So you can do the whole set of eight if you need eight four, some two ounces, which is a pretty good savings when it comes to four and a half ounces with the ones that come with the ten itself. Some people will look at this tent and they’ll say it’s a knockoff and it kind of is, I mean there’s no doubt about it, but here’s the thing: it gives accessibility to people to be able to buy relatively lightweight gear and use it if you’re needing to Wait to spend four to five hundred dollars on a Big Agnes or something like that.

That’s great! If you can okay, but most people can’t and if you’re going to go out and enjoy the outdoors, especially with your kids, you need to have the money to do it and if you can get more lightweight stuff like this at a reasonable price, not the lightest Weight but reasonable, I think it’s the way to go. MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2 Backpacking Tent Review

So the folks at MSR were kind enough to send me one of their hubba hubba NX to person backpacking tents. So I can show it to you and we are here in the survival on purpose, high-tech outdoor studio.

I’m going to take a look at that right. Now, if we can get it done before the Sun Goes Down, this is going to be one of those. Let’s do it for the first time together articles on purpose just to see how simple this thing is to set up now. I recommend always always always checking out all your gear you’re going to take out in the wild before you go, make sure you know how to operate it to set it up to use it or whatever the case may be, but I do think for a article Like this, it is sometimes useful to do this together for the first time that way, we can just see how simple it really is, because I haven’t had a chance to practice if there’s any tricky parts or anything like that, we just cut to the chase and Do it right together? So again they were kind enough to send me the tent.

They also were kind enough to send me. The footprint goes with the tent. So what we’re going to do is we’ll set this thing up and then we’ll talk about the specs the Sun is going down, so that would be a good test. So let’s get to doing some of that tent stuff. This first thing, we’ll do is we’ll open up the footprint, and I recommend, if possible, always get a footprint for your tent, because it just really does a good job of protecting the tent, and in this case it also gives you a couple of really super lightweight Setup options you can go ultra light feather light with the footprint.

This one comes with a built-in stuff sack, so the bag is already attached to it and then open it up and you’ll notice. Also on the corners. It’s not just a piece of nylon. This thing actually has grommets that you can set up the poles in the footprint and just use the rain fly without the tent for a really ultralight, shelter setup. So we’re going to go ahead and spread this out. You can see this.

The winds blowing a little bit so no not going to make this too much of a Laurel and Hardy episode here or three stooges or whatever your preferred comedy team is. I could get political here, but I’m not going to so next thing. I wan na show you this thing comes in a very nice compression stuff sack, so it’s got some nice little little buckles here open those up and then there’s a drawstring mouth on it and open that up some sort of really big.

So it’s going to make it really easy to get your tent back in sometimes the bag that tents come in there make them really difficult. This is obviously going to be really easy, so open it up and put that out of the way. First thing I want to point out: is it comes with everything you need? It comes with 10 very nice looming them tent stakes, and these things I mean these. These are just nice stakes right off the bat.

The poles have their own little bag with a drawstring on it, which is also really good, because it’s something you may want to separate the poles and the tent and one person carry each if you’re really trying to distribute your weight. These poles are all hooked together. So they’re they’re like a central hub system so and actually what they recommend doing, I believe, is to go ahead and stake out.

The rain fly so we’ll go ahead and do that we’ll just put some stakes in minis. This is some hard dirt here this’ll. This would get us first. This will get us at least for a article right. The tents have adjustable buckles on, so you can hum. You can tighten them up and put tension on really good. Once you can stake down, which is just a good thing. So you don’t have to tie a bunch of crazy knots or whatever you can actually hook them in and go ahead and just tension.

Your chin out, so that’s pretty nice too and they’ve got the holes here for the poles to go in now. Let’s spread this out now, let’s take a look at these poles. Okay, so the poles are kind of a hub situation. So, basically, you should snap them all together and when you get done they’re going to have us you’re going to have a self-supporting structure, that’s going to be a the main framework for the tent.

I don’t if you can see all the all this now, but we’ve got two eyes on the end with the hub in the middle. Each one of the poles has a little pin a nice little pin here where it connects into the tent and then the tents have the little holes. I showed you in the tabs so just go ahead and put these in the holes like so, and do the other side like so and go to the other end like so once you get these four done, then you essentially everything else.

This thing’s going to be self-supporting next step, is going to be just to take these clips and clip it on, and I really like that. I can’t stand these tents that have sleeves that you have to like a slide step through because it’s just such a real big pain in the neck. For me, I like to start on the sides and work my way around and then the top. You got a couple of little eminent abs here with holes in them that you clip the ridgepole on and well lost that side.

We better to put a little tension on it first and then spread that out, clip it in. Then. You have two more Clips here and gives you a pretty roomy little tent here for sure now what you can also do now that you’ve got the tent staked out, we can put the corners on and just pull those tight okay before we put the rain plow And I just want to show you these doors. These are really big doors and they’re um very easy to get into.

Of course, they’ve got the clip here, just a toggle here, so you can. You can go ahead and fasten your door open, which is always pretty cool to have and then really roomy in here it’s a I mean I’ve got enough room to lay completely out. You can see me and I am about five eight. So we’ll talk about the dimensions in a minute but enough room for two people, but I won’t be honest with you most the time.

I consider a two-person tent, really a one-person tent because referral to lightweight yeah, if you’re, serious backpacker, you may well go with two before for every day, camping whatnot. This is going to be I’m going to probably like a tent about this size for myself, because that gives me room to put a little bit of stuff in here without having to leave it out here. Although it does have some really cool vestibules.

We’re going to take a look at in just a second, so this is a very, very competent and I like the fact that it’s got there no leak floors and they kind of roll up on the sides really nice. So, let’s put the rain fly on then I got a couple other details. I want to show you so to put the rain fly on. It’s basically pretty simple, just open this thing up kind of drag it over now. Here’s something I think it’s pretty cool about! The rain fly now, what’s really cool is they’ve, got these color color-coordinated clips, and it’s grey and grey.

The tabs on the poles are long enough. You can just go anything hook. It on they’ve got little ridges on it. Do that and we’ll go around. Do the same thing on all four corners: okay, I’ll, give you a little hint. First of all, it’s these things have adjustment buckles on them also. So it’s a good idea to go and loosen all those up while you’re putting the flower once you’ve got all the corners attached, then you can you can pull it down and adjust the tension.

Okay, the next step is just to kind of go in and get everything kind of situated and I’ll. Just pull the tent pull the fly back across a little bit, so the seams are lined up with the with the poles. Then you want to go to the middle and have a zipper here and inside here there’s another little tab. You hook on the end of the ridgepole here and that’s just going to keep everything nice and together so to uh, create a vestibule for your gear.

You just take the you know, take your steak, stake out the corner here and just put a little tighter and you can have it and then you can keep it closed if you like, can sip it closed and have a really weather weather protected area. It’s going to stop water from running down the ground, but it will definitely keep rain from coming on it and give you somewhere to put your gear under here, pretty good size too, and then you can roll it up.

You have a place to get in and out because that brings me to something else. I’m going to show you just concerning the attention to detail from the MSR tent here. So this is the toggle and you’ll notice that the Scot here in this case is a ring. It’s not a just a little loop of fabric like that. A lot of tents actually just have that little loop there and you got to try to fish the toggle through now.

That’s certainly cheaper. This is, but this is certainly easier because you don’t have to you have to try to open that little loop of fabric. You can just you got a nice solid plastic ring there. You can hook it through very easy one. Other thing I want to show you that I think is a really great detailing this tent is at the end of the rain, fly, there’s a little vent here and attached to this end, there’s a little stiff.

I don’t know what probably a piece of plastic in there and it has a Velcro on both sides, and you can prop it open like this, and you can basically have an awning here and it helps you keep ventilation. So it gives you an opportunity to depend on how you want to open your your vestibule, how you want open this to really modify the amount of ventilation air flow you get in this tent. Okay, one other detail: I want to show you that thing is really cool about these tents are at the overhang here where it goes into the vestibule.

It’s actually got a rain gutter, which is just an extra piece of standing fabric up here, but when the rain comes down instead of dripping off and either down into your zipper, it just helps, or else your whatever it just helps blog the water down to the Bottom, just another great feature in my opinion: okay, so it’s about to get dark. The mosquitos are getting crazy out here. So what I think I want to try to do now is we just see how quick we can get this thing packed up and I’ll show you how well it packs up, and we will wrap this thing up.

So what I’m going to do is I’ll put the specs on screen while I’m packing this thing up and then we’ll wrap this up. Oh and here’s for that great big old stuff sack comes in handy. You just tighten that, like so check that in there take your compression, straps snap and shut and then tighten them up and there you have it ready for your next campout. So let’s talk about this real, quick and wrap this up before the mosquitoes carry me away.

This is a very, very nice tent. It’s a two-person, tent, very lightweight under 4 pounds very well made. I did want to mention that, because it is self-supporting, the way the frame is made. You can go very lightweight and use just a footprint and the rain fly, or even just a rain fly and really save weight, but still have a pretty good protection from the elements. So a lot of good options and choices here, and the price of this thing is around a $ 300 mark and their footprints around the 50 dollar mark.

So it’s not a low budget tent. It’s kind of one of those things where you might wince a little when you buy it, but you never ever ever regret it once you have it so anyway, I’ll quit rambling. Now over this really cool tent, that’s the hubba hubba NX from the folks at MSR. Best Budget Backpacking Tent – Naturehike Mongar 2 (MSR Clone?)

So I’m going to tell you whether or not it’s worth it for you and as always I’ll have links down below in the description with the most updated prices and without further ado welcome to another review. So once you find your perfect campground, setting up the tent is fairly easy.

The first thing you want to do is grab your footprint, which is included with the tent and stake down. All four corners then grab your poles and put each end into the corner. Grommets. On the footprint – and it doesn’t matter which way you do this, because the tent is symmetrical – then lay out the tent across the footprint and start attaching the tent clips to the aluminum pole, starting from the bottom and work your way towards the top finishing at that Tent brow – and I should also mention that you can lay out the inner tent on top of the footprint before you set up the poles as well.

It’s just whatever you find easier, finally, throw the fly over the tent and line up the zippers on the fly, with the doors on the tent and then make sure you attach the fly clips to the brow pole on the tent. To make sure the fly is centered over the tent, then go around and secure all four corners of the tent, along with staking out your vestibules and then tighten down the fly to your liking and you’re all set.

Let’s talk about the poles, the poles that you get with this tent are made from seven 0:01 aluminum, so they’re, very strong, lightweight and they’re definitely easy to set up now. This does differ from the MSR tent because, with the MSR you in aerospace, composite pole, which is supposed to be even lighter than the aluminum, and just as strong one thing I really like about the nature, hike and also the MSR is the clips that hold the Poles in place are made out of aluminum, so they seem really sturdy and well built, and you know they’re not going to break on you anytime soon.

Also, the stakes that come with the tent are aluminum as well, and they seem really well-built. The material of the tent is a 20d ripstop nylon, which is silicone coated to make it waterproof and with the MSR. It’s also a 20d ripstop nylon, but they coat it with their extreme coating is what they call it. So both tents should be waterproof. However, I haven’t tested the nature hike in the rain, yet so I’m not sure how waterproof it is, but I’ll throw up a article when I do test it, so you guys can see that in the future.

Another thing I like is the zippers on this tent. They seem really high quality for the price of the tent. I’m just really impressed with them now inside the tent. There’s plenty of room, definitely room for two people, and the cool thing is this: tent has two doors. So if you have to go pee in the middle of the night, you don’t have to step over the person you’re sleeping next to you can just go out your own door, which I think is a nice touch.

Also there are three pockets inside the tent one. On either end and one at the top and there’s also a hook as well at the top in case, you want to hang something and just like the MSR to prevent condensation. There are two vents on either side of the tent. Now the nature hike packs down into a relatively small package and you could probably get it even smaller with a compression sack it weighs in at 4 pounds 11 ounces.

So if you’re trying to save weight, I would go with the MSR, because the MSR weighs in at 3.5 ounces and it’s going to be about the same size as the nature hike. So, overall, I’m very impressed with the Munger. It’s basically the same tent as the MS are, but it comes in at a much much cheaper price, which I’m a huge fan of. I don’t like spending tons of money on tents, if I don’t have to – and I really like this one for the price.
