Important Hiking Devices: Things You Required Before Hitting The Trail

There is nothing worse than getting miles away from civilization and encountering an emergency you are not prepared for. Whether you’re lost with no food, caught in an unanticipated rain, or in pain from poor footwear, treking without the best devices is never ever a fun experience.

Your gear will vary depending on what kind of hiking adventure you are preparing, however whether you’re backpacking the Appalachian Trail or preparing a day trek with your household, there are some pieces of hiking gear you ought to always remember.

First, you need a rugged treking backpack to easily hold the rest of your equipment. A small day pack may be all you need if the majority of your hikes are short and you rarely plan to remain overnight. If you are preparing longer hiking journeys, try to find a knapsack that fits comfortably with plenty of compartments and sufficient room for all your food, protein snacks and equipment.

Proper shoes is another important piece of treking equipment, no matter where and the length of time you are hiking. Select hiking boots or shoes that are designed for the kind of surface you will most often be hiking and make sure they are a comfy fit. Wear high quality treking socks also, developed for the particular climate you are in and cushioned for extra support. For a more accurate fit, purchase your treking socks first and use them to look for your hiking boots.

Always have a map of the area you are hiking, as well as a compass. The Coleman digital compass is great for backcountry hiking. Trail maps are typically readily available at the ranger station for the majority of state and national hiking path systems.

Food and water is a must, no matter for how long you are hiking. Long walkings need at least one gallon of water per person each day, while 32 ounces of water per person is usually appropriate on much shorter walkings. Bring along a lot of calorie rich snacks, like jerky and trail mix, for all your walkings and load an extra day’s supply of food for overnight hikes. It’s a good idea to bring adequate food for both lunch and dinner on your day hikes, just in case things take longer than planned.

You will likewise desire a first aid package with you on all your hiking trips. Unless you are hiking in extreme conditions, you will just desire the essentials for insect bites, small scrapes, blisters, thorns, and other typical path conditions. Sunscreen, lip balm, and insect repellant ought to likewise be included in your hiking first aid bag.

Never begin on a hiking journey without rain equipment and extra clothing, specifically in areas with really unpredictable weather condition. A lightweight rain coat with a hood is ideal if you get caught in the rain. An emergency shelter might be a requirement for extreme weather condition hiking and an emergency situation blanket is a should if you’re treking in the winter season.

Another necessary piece of hiking devices that you shouldn’t forget is a little flashlight. Flashlights are important for long walkings when you require to find your method around camp, but they can show to be convenient on day walkings too if you are still treking at sundown.

Make certain everybody you are treking with has a whistle for emergency situations. Other hiking equipment you need to bring on every journey is some sort of fire starter, along with wind and rain resistant matches, and a multi-purpose knife.

These are one of the most standard basics for any hiking journey. Longer trips will require extra gear, as will extreme weather condition walkings. You may desire additional gear, depending on your hike and your interests, like binoculars, a hiking pole, or a trail guide.

Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike Part 3/10

Actually that’s kind of disappointing, hey guys the morning of May 1st. Now, I’m not sure this was one of the intentional controlled burns by the fire crews or what I’m not sure how it started or how recent it was. It’s definitely a factor out here. I missed the section just north of Hot Springs.

Last week, fires to start find themselves or there could just be careless, campers clear, a good 15 foot radius of leaves from around the fire pit. Before you start a fire, don’t start a fire somewhere where there’s not already a pit and if there’s rocks around the next shelter, the Watauga shelter is actually closed right now, because there was a note back there, that said: listen to the signs I’m walking into town With no food well right now, I’ve got a Snickers bar and a protein bar and best-case scenario weight wise for what you’re carrying it’s perfect to walk into town, with no food granted that you’re not walking into town starving.

But what I wanted to share with you was it’s perfectly okay: to walk in the town with a day’s worth of food with you still because food out here equals options.

Is a $25 Tent from Walmart Waterproof? – Ozark 1 Person Backpacking Tent

It’s not bad one minute, terrible music. Hey there buddy! I have a question about the Ozark Trail, one person backpacking tent um – if you take it down to like the winds and rain, it’s just not made for that. It’s not going to hold that well, for you do not take this tent out in anything other than perfect weather.

I’m done my name is Luke. This is the outdoor river view. They get very much for tuning in okay. So, a few weeks back, a viewer sent me a tint in the mail is some viewer mail? You guys might have seen that article and I may not have actually put it up yet. It really just depends on how I spaced out the articles but anyways a viewer named tan, sent me a tent from Walmart, and it was the Ozark one person backpacking tent.

Now there are actually many different tents from Ozark which they refer to as one person backpacking tent. So the model number for this tent is W 79 6.1. Just in case, you were interested. Let’s go over to this tent real quick, take a quick look at it. So that’s the front it’s more of a pity than a tent going around to the back. It has two poles one in the front one in the back here. Of course, the one in the back is smaller.

This thing is super simple: to set up comes with seven stakes: it is a single wall tent you receive a sleeve for the poles, a sleeve for the stakes. It comes with this box owner’s manual and the stuff bag right here. Speaking of the poles, these are fiberglass. As you can see, you have two guide line points those are included. There are no other guide line points for this tent. This is the insurance right here and take a look at the size of this thing.

It is absolutely huge. This thing is gigantic, so I get the viewer bail. I open it up, there’s this tent and how awesome is that ten? Thank you very much for doing this for everyone, because I get to share all this information with you all. So I see this tent it’s an inexpensive tent, which cost roughly twenty-five dollars from Walmart. You can find it on Amazon and other websites, but the prices are higher, so roughly twenty-five bucks at Walmart, ten, as well as many of the other viewers, want me to begin testing out very inexpensive products such as this.

So the day that I received this tent, I got to the house open it up, so the tent and the sky was black right. So I was like okay, you know what I’m going outside I’m going to set this up real quick, so it can have a few hours out in the rain. Let’s see if this tent is waterproofed, because that is my question is a $ 25 tent from Walmart waterproof, and the answer is no. No, it is not. This is not a waterproof tent.

This thing failed all the way around the entire body. I’ll show you some clips now, so we have some rain coming in some storms. We will see how well she does. Let’s take a look here on the inside of the tent. Now we are looking at the waterproof this of this tent. Okay, as we can see here, there is a water drop here. There is water here looks like this scene. Here is failing. We have water on the other side over here, so pulling a good bit of pulling here again more leaking at the seams here again more leaking.

The point of leakage for this tent goes all the way around the body of the tent. It deals with the seams, but not all of them, for example the seam on top here. This has been taped and it is fully waterproof same on the other side, but the seam down here towards the bottom of the tent. It has not been taped and water will leak through this all the way around. So let’s go over the stats, real quick for this tent before going any further price $ 25 color, yellow and tan weight around three pounds.

It is 96 inches long 48 inches wide at the front of the tent. At the foot box it is 24 inches wide. The front of the tent is 36 inches high and it does taper down to 22 inches. Now I was able to find a website called Ozark Trail tents, calm. You guys should go over and check that thing out, because it’s like a blast from the 90s as soon as you go there. You are greeted with this pop-up on the side and it’s this animated character.

Who is talking to you about Ozark tents? It’s super weird. It’s probably one of the fishiest sites that I’ve been to in a long time, hi and welcome Bill of justin.Com home to Walmart brand camping, tent Ozark Trail. What are you looking for? A new camping, tent, sleeping back, camping gear or replacement in poles? You have come to the right place, take a look around read on camping gear reviews and start planning.

Your next camping getaway today and the animated character reminds me of like a desktop buddy from the 90s, like Banzai buddy or like the desktop stripper babes or whatever. It’s really weird so, as we discuss already the perimeter, the stitching around the perimeter, that is the weak point for this tent water will come in when it’s raining. You do have to be careful with your setup here. You need the front of this tent to be leaning over some that way when it’s raining the water slides off of this vestibule here this very short, very small vestibule and stays away from the zipper, because if the water hits the zipper it will leak through now, This tent was put on the rain for roughly two hours and you saw how much water was inside of it, and that was a very light to moderate rain.

No thunderstorm, nothing heavy, and this thing definitely leaked now. You could take some seam sealer and go all the way around the perimeter here and stop this thing up. That does not mean that you will stay dry inside of this tent and that’s because this is a single wall tent with limited ventilation. I could tell you, I spent one night in this tent and I do not want to spend another night in it.

The condensation and the amount of moisture buildup on the walls was probably the most insane I have ever seen in a tent before the entire thing was soaking, wet and, of course, that’s with a moderate, humidity level right, I believe around 65 70 % here in the Mountains that night no rain at all. I just had this zipped up if you were able to camp out and have this door open, but with just the mesh here, your condensation level, the moisture level will be kept to a minimum, but you will still be wet.

Don’t worry about that, but if you have to seal this thing up because of cold conditions or because it’s wet outside something like that, this thing will gather an incredible amount of condensation more than you can imagine I mean it really is terrible. This material here, which I believe is a polyester, is not breathable at all all and that could be because of the water repellent finish, which is on the material itself.

Now speaking of the water repellant finish on this tent after it got done raining, it came out. Take a look at the tent, there was some pulling here on the material and it was discolored, and I believe that is the water repellent treatment that was done to the tent. So it is coming off. Based upon my observations of this tent so far, I believe that this is a product that you will have to treat yourself with a water repellent coating, often to keep yourself dry.

If you are in an area, that’s very dry that receives very little moisture. This is an interesting option to consider, because for $ 25.00, you are getting a $ 25 ten. This tent right here is worth $ 25. It performs like a $ 25 10 should, if you are in a wet area, a place with high humidity man. This is not the tent for you. This is, without a doubt, not the tent. For me, the amount of moisture buildup inside of this thing is, like I mentioned before incredible.

The linking around the perimeter is insane. This is a twenty five dollar tent. There are loose threads all over the place. Look at that stitching, very, very poor. I wouldn’t want to pull on this right going down. It’s all kinked up, very, very rough. Here’s a long thread, sticking out! Here’s another one, it’s very very long as I was doing some research about this tent here. I found one review where the individual stated he had an issue with the tent leaking leaked when it rained.

He had condensation build-up like crazy, so he contacted the company. He was told by the company by a representative that these tents are made for use in the front yard of your home and in perfect conditions. They are not made for backpacking and they are not meant to be used in foul weather. That is incredibly interesting. So I found a phone number here for ozarks: let’s give them a call and see if they recommend this product being used for backpacking, talented anytime report outlining directory jump.

Please be aware that this phone call may be recorded for training and quality control purposes. You’re expected wait. Time is approximately one minute: it’s not bad one minute, terrible music, ooh awful. I fixed your excel outdoors. My name is Benji. How can I help you hey there buddy. I have a question about the Ozark Trail, one person backpacking tent, and hopefully you can answer that. For me. I purchased this tent and I actually came across a review on the Walmart web page and it said that this individual had talked to customer service at Ozark and they were told that they shouldn’t go backpacking with this tent and that it should only be used in Their front yard – and so I was just kind of hoping to get some clarification on that.

I think the clarification is really that they’re really made for perfect weather. If you take a condoms like the wind and rain, it’s just not made for that. It’s not going to hold up well for you, okay. I appreciate the honesty. Thank you very much all right, all right, okay, folks, there you have it straight from Ozark themselves. Do not take this tent out in anything other than perfect weather. Should you purchase this tent? No is it great for your kids to play in? Yes, if you think about that, that’s fairly devious, because when you go to Walmart you’re buying a tent you’re thinking about likely I’m going to take this in the outdoors.

And it’s going to protect me. But here with Ozark, they are saying, do not use it in any conditions, less than perfect hmm something to consider so it has been roughly 24 hours since I filmed the Ozark article and I made a call to their customer service and after sleeping upon this, I Wanted to do a sort of follow-up and give you all my impressions. I think the fact that this company Ozark is selling this tent here and they are advertising this as a backpacking tent when it is not, is extremely deceptive.

I don’t want anybody to go out and purchase this tent and then take this out onto the trail miles away from the car from the house and so on and get stuck in a situation that may become life or death threatening. That is something that could happen very easily, especially when they are advertising this at a backpacking tent. The conditions are not always going to be perfect and with this tent here, the one person backpacking tent, that’s what it was designed for.

I think this is extremely deceptive. It’s wrong: they should not be offering this tin as a backpacking option, because it is not one. This tent was made for your kids to play in in the front yard. Right, that’s pretty much it. If you take this tent out into the weather, you are putting yourself at serious risk. It is not made for the wind, it is not made for the weather, the rain, the moisture and so on.

I apologize folks for the low lighting and for the echo, but that’s how it is my neighbors actually mowing his yard. So if I had the door open or if I was outside of you really loud anyways folks, I’m all for inexpensive, very budget-friendly tents. But this is not a good option and you do have to question always Ark as a company as a whole are their tents are any of them waterproof and honestly, that is not an answer that I have at this moment.

I went through a number of different listings on walmart.Com and a lot of them stated that the tents are weather resistant, but not waterproof, and if they are outside in the rain, the materials will soak through and you will get wet with. That being the case, I am going to make a separate article stating an advisory about purchasing Ozark products. You really need to know what product that you have and what its capabilities are.

That is very important information to have, and you should have it if you have an Ozark tent or you are considering purchasing one. You need to call the Ozark customer service. I will put the phone number in the description box down below and you need to ask them about the performance of that tent. I do not want anyone to get hurt. I don’t want anyone to die from exposure hypothermia or whatever, because their 10th failed them with.

That being said, do I recommend me one person, Oh, is our backpacking tent? I do not not no not at all and as it stands, I’m not sure. I would even consider any of their products based upon the deceptive nature, other advertising with that they said every one, I’m going to finish up the editing of this article now shoot the other advisory article and I’m excited to see your comments down below so folks.

Make sure to chime in state your thoughts if you love Ozark and you have a product which is fantastic, make sure to state that down below make sure to state what that product is. If you’ve had an Ozark product that has failed. You comment down below. If you think my review and my criticisms and my alerts are accurate thumbs up, if you disagree with me, give it a thumbs down, call me Don strengthen honor by

Hyke and Byke Zion 2 Person Backpacking Tent – With A Secret

Let’s take a look at a scion two-person tent for the folks at hiking bike and it’s pretty cool tents got some pretty cool features and one of them believe it or not, I’ll hold it in my hand. You want to see what that is stay tuned, because that’s what’s coming up next here on survival on purpose, welcome back to survival on purpose your home for information and gear reviews related to camping survival in general preparedness for regular folks.

My name is Brian thanks for joining me, so you may know that I’m a Scoutmaster as such, I feel pretty good a bit of camping and I’m pretty familiar with a lot of different kind of tents and stuff. I personally use a hammock, usually when I’m camping, but sometimes you just can’t use the hammock. If you go to film on, if you’ve been a filmography going to film on, you might know, but you can’t take a hammock there, a lot of place.

There are no trees and plus they’re really concerned about the damage that hammock, straps and rope do to trees when a lot of people are using using the same area. So tints are important. A lot of place. You just can’t use hammock, so it’s really cold weather. You can’t blah blah blah, I’m rambling on about the advantages of having versus tents, and that’s not what this article is about. So the folks at hiking biking kind enough to send me one of their Zion to person tent.

So I showed you, you may not be familiar to hiking bike, but they’re manufactures free, high-quality camping gear they’re, actually one of the top sellers of down sleeping bags on Amazon in the last couple of years and we’ve come out this line of tents several months back, They’ve actually coming out with you see, this was like a really bright, yellow color to the tenant stuff. It’s kind of green they’re coming out with a few other colors and fabric options in the next coming months, so stay tuned for that, but pretty cool tent there.

This is one of those that can actually set up in several different configurations. I’ll show you to set up the kind of fast feet and maybe doing a little bit of overdubbing in the old survival on purpose studio here and talk about what’s going on. So let me just show you how this thing sets up. Give you a little bit of setup on this. I decided to set it up, as I would in terrain. So, basically, you said: look this kit comes with a up the footprint and everything is included.

It’s got the footprint, it’s got, the rain fly, it’s got eight point five millimeter aluminum pole gives these nice aluminum stakes got like fluorescent, marked guidelines, it comes with the gear storage loft, it comes with the footprint it comes with. The comes with the bag comes with a really nice poles and it’s like a one pole set up. So what I did was I set up the fly first. So that’s what that’s what you probably want to do if it’s raining when you’re setting up, and sometimes that happens, especially in the Boy Scouts, then you set the tent up underneath and your tent stays pretty dry and you don’t have to worry about rain.

Getting inside your tent while you’re setting up the fly, so you set the fly up. First, keep the tent the bag and then go ahead, set the tent up under the flight. Everything stays drier that way, it’s just a little a little trick, but it also gives the option. You really want to go. Ultralight you’re, not it’s not bug season. You can leave the tent at home and just set up the rain fly itself as a as a shelter to keep the rain off of you and you don’t have to carry the weight of the tent.

So it’s got several different weight options. Instead of me going over all that right now, I’ll put it in the description to this article below you’ll be linked to their websites, going to have all that information to steam, check their website or Amazon or have the price on them will be links in the Description so anyway, this cut to death. Show you how this thing sets up and I’ll do my kind of overdub fancy narration in the more wrap this thing up.

Okay, this is the highly professional voice-over portion of the article, and you can see they came in a nice little sack. What I’m going to do is put out the ground cloth. First then open up the poles. This tent features a single pole, design where everything is basically connected by shock cords. It’s got hubs in the center. I just want to put each of the poles into the corner of the footprint and I’ve got a little metal grommets and the poles just stick in the grommets.

Basically, then, in this case, when you get the rain fly out first unfold it out where it’s over the right place, you can see one on the pole across the top. That’s going to go on last there’s little pockets and the rain fly to catch that. But the ends of the poles have a long enough kind of a ferrule on them to catch all the grommets that you need to need to poke them. In so polka mean that’s a nice um technical term for tent set up.

Basically, just you want to put the top little little wing pole there out to kind of spread it out. You put it in the pockets. You can see me crawl around in there and you’ve got everything in the connected to the poles. Let’s go ahead, open up. The flap, so you can kind of see what I’m doing here, it’s kind of hard to tell on camera. But finally, we going to take the ten out, I’m going to put it inside and basically lift up the corners and just put the ends of the poles.

In the grommets on the corners of the tent so basically got all three. Both the footprint the rain fly on the tent stacked on the bottom of the tent poles. Then this just has clips that you clip it to the pole frame, so it’s kind of self-supporting. Once you get everything clipped up, then just fasten the top spreader bar to the tent and you’re pretty much good to go. You can see it comes with some very nice tent stakes.

I always set it up. First, it’s a little easier and then stake it out. You can do it either way once you get it all staked out and just kind of put tension on it, then it’s pretty much where you need it. It also has. It comes with like some little vents on either end with a little stiffeners. It’s kind of hold it out to give you a little bit of a little bit of a dormer effect there and then stake out.

The vestibule has a vestibule on both sides, along with doors on both sides, and it also comes with a pretty nice little cord that has its own tensioners with it. So you can, you can tie out the rain fly and really get it spread out. Even a little further see the tensioners there sort of, and then i’m basically you pull those out if you, if you want to, gives you a little more ventilation underneath the rain fly and kind of mr.

Pres it out a little more and you can use them Or not, but once those are done, the tent is pretty much done. Okay, so that was how the set up is. I like the fact that it’s a one call set up, so you don’t have to fiddle with a bunch of poles and if you don’t, you know how to lose the poles. Hopefully, you know you’re just going to actually the first time I went camping with my wife, we had the big old canvas tent.

I set it up and there was a pole missing. I wound up having to cut a branch off of a green branch whittled down a pole and craft. The pole. There was at least get us through the weekend. It rained on us took the tent down yeah. The pole was under the tent. So another story all entirely but bottom line. This is a one pole set up everything shockcord together, as you saw it’s pretty cool setup. I like the way that works.

I like the fact that it has YKK zippers I like to kind of glow in the dark lines and mornings and other glow of the dark features on it kind of helps. You find it at night when you’re in a flashlight going. I really like the aluminum tent stakes and I guess I’ll go ahead and tape this the secret thing that I really like I’ve never seen before it was called a pusher. It’s just a little aluminum disc with it where they hold in the middle of it.

It fits the top of these tent stakes allows you to push them in if you’ve never had to deal with that. These things can get pretty sharp you’re trying to push them in your hand, it really hurts. Sometimes you can find a rock to hit them with. Sometimes you can’t this thing: this planes works. It is absolutely it’s almost worth the cost of admission right there. For me, I this is, I don’t know who thought of this, but I wish I had thought of it.

It’s a really cool idea weighs hardly anything, and yet it just works, and also it’s got enough of the broom here you can kind of catch it and you can pull them out with it too, so that little secret a secret weapon. There is pretty cool. I, like the fact that it comes with a footprint, comes with a gear loft. It’s got four corner pockets. It’s got a bathtub floor, it’s um, you know it’s not super super ultra light tent, but it’s also it’s pretty decent for around the five five and a half pound range for the whole setup, and you got several different options.

If you want to go, lighter or go, you know with a kind of a scale down configuration, so I like it, it’s big enough. You sit up in it. It’s just a two doors entry. So if you got two people who you’re not climbing over each other, it’s just a very nice tent. So I think we’ve established it’s a pretty cool tent. It’s got some pretty cool features. One thing is really important about tents. The purpose for this whole shelter thing here is to keep you from getting wet if it rains pretty much so with that in mind, since it’s not raining yet, it looks like it’s going to, but I want to go ahead and wrap this up.

We’re going to do a Hollywood thing and manufacture a little rain. So, let’s see what happens, what do you think was that a decent test, let’s see if it’s dry inside okay, so we’re going to go, go ghetto with the camera and go hand hill here, let’s see we can figure out here. So obviously we got some water on the drain flat zipper. There look inside see if we got any water in your here, I’m thinking it’s probably pretty good.

I don’t see any any any water inside it’s completely completely bone dry, yeah, so pretty good there. So we’re just leave it up for a couple days, so there you go it’s a pretty dry inside there, so we’ll call that one pretty decent okay. Well, that’s the hiking box. Ayah on two-person team from the folks at hiking bike got South is a pretty good choice for a tent. I kind of like the bright fluorescent color, but they’re coming out with some other colors, so stay tuned to see what those look like again, thanks to the folks at hockey bike for sending me this all showed you as always thanks for reading survival on purpose, I Put out a brand new article, every Friday and every Saturday, very often random articles so out the week you check out a new one by clicking right over here and if you’re not subscribed to the blog.

Hyke & Byke Yosemite 2P Ultralight Tent Setup and Review

It fits in my backpack very nicely very easy to set up, and that’s what I’m going to show you here in this article of how easy this tent is to set up. So the rainfly super easy to set up you just throw it over. Have it already staked out in front one and back, and you can roll these little curtains up here with this little loop that way it’s easy to get in and out of when you don’t need it and that’s not raining and to secure the tarp down its.

I love these little buckles. You just clip that in super fast, super fast, super, easy side them on all four corners use the flip side. That’s the other thing I really like about this tent. Is you can access it from both sides? So if you were using it with two people, you don’t have to crawl across the other one to get out to go pee in the middle of the night. So we’ll move inside doorway opens up nice and big.

You can see there’s the other way you can access out at the top here. It has a little holding cradle for your items will hook there as well. What else can I say, oh that, as far as the actual pulls they snap in super easy? It’s like kind of semi magnetic it feels like they just come together, really nice and then, as far as that clipping on it’s just one of those they look like I see and they just hug it clip over it again super fast.

I love this tent because I’m a six foot four person – that’s plenty long. I can put out my sleeping pad in here, but also I don’t want to leave my gear outside. I can bring that in with me and sleep right next to my pack, so this makes it the perfect tent for me super lightweight for hiking, so there you have it. There is the setup for the Yosemite, two-person hike and bike ultralight tent. If you like this article, please give it a like and consider subscribing to this blog, because I’ll probably do a few more outdoor review on my ear in the future and also some adventure articles.

So thanks for reading stay fun, everyone you

Best Budget Backpacking Tent: Kelty Salida 1

I mean they’re they’re, capable they come in under five pounds for either one we’re going to talk through all the specs today and they’re compact and they come in under 150 dollars. So you’re able to get a lightweight compact, backpacking style tent, but you’re not going to break the bank, and I’ve used the Salida two for about four or five years now and now the slider one for about a year and love them.

Both just depends on the capabilities that you’re looking for all right. So here is the Salida one in its packaging. Now it’s kind of more of like a brick packaging, and I wanted to give you a Nalgene here as kind of a reference point it’s about as deep as an Al Jean and then it’s about three now jeans high. So, just to kind of give you a little bit of a perspective there, it’s a little bit of different setup than those long, a tubular setups, I’m not sold on this layout versus it.

You know coming in a more narrow stuff sack just you know you. Can you could do that, obviously, if you want to or it obviously it comes this way now just to hit some of the basic specs with you. It is a three season tent, which basically means it’s just not really designed for winter use. You know the really cool temperatures snow, it’s just it’s more of a breathable set up and that’s how it’s designed now.

It’s cool that has this entire layout right here, so we’re going to zoom in and just kind of talk through its overall specs as we’re running in some footage along the way. So I just want to kind of show it to you, hopefully, is going to show up on frame here pretty well, the height is three feet two inches, so I mean six two. You can easily sit up in it, which is nice and get my clothes change. You know if you can’t sit up into your clothes change very well in a tent, particularly when it’s either wet out or it’s just really cold it kind of sucks.

So it’s nice that you can set up and get a good peak there. Now it’s designed kind of in a coffin setup if that makes sense, so it’s wider near the shoulders and by your head and tapers down to a narrower footprint down below again helping to cut down on weight and all of those type of things. So the maximum width at the top of your head is going to be 3 feet, 3 inches. So that’s kind of where my dog hung out and spent his time.

We did have my dog Tommy with us and that has enough room easily. Then it tapers down to 2 feet 5 inches, so it almost cuts down a foot near your foot box there. So just keep that in consideration with its layout and it’s 7 feet. 2 inches long. So you know it’s going to fit any human being of natural. Normal size and then you are going to get a 1 foot 10 inch vestibule out the side. I can easily get like 1 backpack in there again.

This is a one man, ten you’re not going to get two backpacks in there, but a full-size. You know: like 70 60 liter pack will easily fit a nice vegetable as well as your shoes and you’re not going to have them get wet over the rain cover. It does come with a rain cover. That’s really well done. We had heavy heavy rain on this camping trip that you’re seeing and zero. You know problems with it seeping through or anything like that and not a lot of condensation because of the level of mesh that they do now.

The weight on this thing, the minimum weight that means like cut down no bag. You know you’re, maybe not doing the stakes. You know that type of thing it’s going to be three pounds. Six ounces full trail packed weight. That means everything in the bag is three pounds: 14 ounces, which is really lightweight compared to most other backpacking tents, particularly at the cost, and I want to hit the cost with you as I’m rolling in some footage of us putting it up super easy to put It up, you can put up like in five minutes very, very quick, good aluminum cross runners.

You know for the frame and then the tent poles and then great why’ aluminum stakes as well. You know they didn’t cut corners anywhere on this tent and for a hundred and eight dollars. I don’t know of another tent, that’s going to give you this lightweight a set up with this many options and capabilities at that price. Now you can get close or you can even maybe cut down a couple ounces for like 200 300 dollars absolutely, but for this price point of just over a hundred dollars – and we will have links over to Amazon – that’s a great way to help support the blog.

When you use those links, we’re going to have them not only if those slider one the Salida two and a couple other backpacking style tents that I’ve either used or looked at that, I think, are well worth a look. But for this it’s a great budget. Backpacker option small lightweight compact and comes in at under the or just over the hundred dollar price point. Now, just one last thing to think about the Salida: to that I have a previous review on and I’ll try and put a link in the description below.

For that is just a slightly bigger version, it absolutely can handle two people, including my dogs, so my wife and I and my dog have slept in it. It is going to obviously way more it’s going to be, I think, about a pound. More, maybe like a pound and a half more, but that’s what I’m going to be $ 118 level link over to Amazon for that as well. So for an extra ten dollars, you can get a whole nother person as well as just more space to move around.

So just keep that in consideration as well. What is the better thing for you if you are wanting a one-man light weight as light as possible? Obviously the Salida one, if you don’t really care about the weight or maybe you know, you’re willing to sacrifice that for just a few dollars more for more space or for two people. Maybe it’s you and your son or daughter, you know, maybe it’s you and your spouse.

The Salida two is also a fantastic option as well, so just want to do a walk around with you and we do have a lot of their bike activity near us at this campsites Friday night, so they’re all coming out now, but I just want to kind Of walk you through this just so you can see – and this was for me and my 50-pound dog Tommy. The trail dog is a border collie springer spaniel mix. It was a little tight, but he and I could easily fit in there.

You know, and he wasn’t you know if you have a dog – is pretty calm, it’s going to be just fine, but it is a freestanding tent, which is awesome as well. You know it’s always best when you can mount these things and you know stake them in, but if you had to, this would be able to as long as it wasn’t like huge gusts of wind be able to hang out what we have here is you know To run door here with two zippers, they are a little bit.

The seams do seem a little cheap on, but I’ve never had in, particularly my Salida too, for like four years them ever. You know bind up or jam up on me or anything like that. In that there is a little loop, so you can, you know, is it this open and if you needed to and you’re not really worried about bugs you can roll it up and stash it off to the corner, so you can get in and out very easily, But you can see a lot mesh, which is good, very breathable system.

Nice attachment points along the top here and you know you’re going to get enough room for like one person in and again like a 50 pound dog. Don’t try to get yourself and, like your son in here, your daughter, you know and like do something. You know family camping, that way you’re going to regret it so um. You do have these two little tiny stash pockets here on these corners, which is nice, you can get like a cellphone, a headlamp, something like that, that’s about it in there and then down at the bottom and you’re not going to really get anything in there.

Now. I can easily sit up in the tent, which is nice, so when changing clothes, that’s really important and then they do have also Kelty’s ability to put one of their little attics. They called like their mesh attic. Now I wish you would have come standard with it. It’s like an extra twenty bucks, but there are these little hooks here. I’ve obviously run you know wing interns, so I can see at night in there, but there is that option.

So you can have a little mesh basket up here to throw some of your gear. If you want to, but for me being 16 being able to sit up in this and change, my clothes was a huge bonus. So there you have the folks. I want to thank you for coming over today, checking out the Salida 1 and, if you’re a person with either a small dog or just yourself, I think you’re going to totally dig it when you’re on a budget.

And you want that lightweight backpacker. You know capable tent, I think, you’re getting a lot of use out of it in a lot of years, just like we have not only with this one but the Salida too, and that’s a great one for a two-man system, and I wife and I were able To sleep in there with our dog as well without too much difficulty, so the Salida 2 would just be the upgrade if you want to go a little bit bigger, but both great tents that Kelty has been producing for years, and you know I can’t recommend these Systems both the Salida 1 & 2 enough.

So thank you guys so much for coming over today. Checking out the blog please subscribe comment like share this article. Any questions you have I’ll answer in the comments below check us out on all the relevant social media as well. It’s a great way to see what’s up and coming and always remember, stay quit stay prepared, we’ll see out there.

Are you looking for a tent to go out backpack in this season? Hopefully something a little bit lightweight and maybe something even budget-friendly? Well, today, we’re going to take a look at a tent from nature hike. It’s called the cloud up. It’s an upgraded edition. I’ll show you what that means. So stay tuned, we’ll check out this quality budget-friendly tent thanks for reading, so I was contacted by nature hike and they sent me this tent out.

They said check it out and give us an honest review on your YouTube blog, and I said I absolutely love to do that. If you read my blog, you know I do a lot of budget related articles. I really want people to be able to enjoy the outdoors and not have to spend tons of money. This tent definitely fits the bill. This article is about looking at the specs, see how easily it goes up showing y’all how that works in case you’re interested in buying this particular tent.

Now, it’s just too hot guys, it’s too hot to spend the night in the woods. It’s like 85 degrees at night. It’s just not fun! So I’m not spending the night in the woods in this tent tonight, but stay tuned later in the fall. We’re going to go on a couple of overnights we’re going to be testing out several tents that I have. One of them is this one. So there are two places to purchase this tent. One is from aliexpress it’s kind of the Amazon of China.

You can buy it cheaper there. It just takes longer to get it. You can buy for about a hundred two hundred and ten dollars. Sometimes you can even get free shipping. You can also buy it on Amazon anywhere from 110 to 145 dollars, depending on what particular color you want. You also can get it on Prime sometime, so I would say somewhere between 100 to 140 dollars. You can get this at Amazon. That’s a pretty good deal.

Look into the dimensions it’s 15 and a half inches folded up by five inches; okay, so pretty compact, it’s actually built it’s about forty, nine by eighty two and a half by thirty nine. That gives you some rough dimensions and we’ll take a look at it here. In a second, as far as material goes, it is made out of a 20 D, SIL nylon, very high quality feeling SIL nylon. The poles themselves are a fairly lightweight aluminum.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ntgAr9FWXkA

It’s a double sided Y shape. That’s the improved or updated version of this. The original version of the cloud up to had one Y only in the front, this one has two eyes also in the back you’ll, see that when we put it up as far as what the tent comes with, it actually comes with a separate ground sheet. Okay, that adds weight, but it does add some to the security, because you do want to make sure you don’t put it on the ground without taking all the stickies up, because you could poke into that 20 D nylon pretty easily the actual stuff sack for the Tent itself comes with, the poles comes with.

Stakes comes with eight stakes and a little bit of extra line, so you can stake it down really well in the wind. It also, of course, comes with the fly and the tent itself. The tent body now I’ll put some of the specific specific weights over here. I’m just going to give you all some generalities the weights. The way I look at it, the body of the tent itself is a little bit under a pound. Okay, it’s about 15 ounces, something around those lines.

The fly itself is about one pound about 16 ounces. Our poles are fairly heavy as well. Those are about one pound about 16 ounces as well. That gives you about three pounds. Roughly okay, then you’re. Looking at the stakes themselves, these particular stakes – the stake bag itself weighs, I believe, four and a half ounces. Now that’s a place. You can save a lot of weight, we’ll talk about that later.

So when I weighed it straight from when they sent it to me, it was three pounds: six ounces, not including the ground sheet, which it weighs an additional 16 ounces. I wouldn’t use it when I take it out on the trail. I would come up with something much lighter, it’s very easy to do that, but just giving you guys a general idea, the pack weight of the tent itself, three pounds: six ounces straight out of the box, we’ll talk later on how to make that lighter.

Now, let’s put this thing up, so here’s the tin itself with the fly as you can see, it’s a freestanding tent, very easy, took me about first time ever put it together. It still took me about three or four minutes, pretty simple to do before we put the fly on, let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the details of just the tent body itself: nice big front door. Here, okay, it’s got a zipper. That goes all the way around the top.

It’s got good height, as you can see I’ll get in here in a second. You guys can see how tall it is. It’s got a nice amount of room here for the tub itself. I’d say it’s about three and a half inches for the tub so that it stays relatively out of the water. If you’re in a lot of rain, there’s that back Y – and you can see the backside of the tent itself, you can see that this is pretty high arching, that particular pole right.

There has a nice built-in arch and it works very, very well to keep it up off of you all right. I’m going to get inside show you all what kind of room we have. So here we go inside the tent. I don’t know if you can see. I’m six one: okay and I’m going to try not to get this thing dirty, but you will see very clearly that I’ve got more than enough room to lay flat back. I’ve got several inches on top here and my feet fit in very nicely again.

I’m trying not to get it dirty, but there’s plenty of headroom here, which is nice. If you’re utilizing this as a one person tent technically, two people can fit in here without question, especially an adult and a child, which I think’s, where I would use it. The most but two sleeping pads will fit in here it’s cramped, but especially if it’s cold that would be nice. It’s got some nice features like you can take this door and toggle it back.

It’s got a nice little toggle here, okay, so you can keep it out of the way in camp. It’s got a little hook inside here which allows you to hang a light or a lantern or something that’s really really nice. I’m going to go ahead and put on the fly, show you how easy it is to do that. You can see how easily you can attach the fly itself. It just locks in you can easily adjust it. Both the ground, tarp and the tent body have snaps.

So that gives you flexibility to use the fly with just the ground, tarp and say wait. Another nice feature is this: you can snap this on okay to connect the tent body with the fly itself. That does two things. It keeps the fly on obviously, but it also when you stake out the fly, it pulls the tent body away, just a little bit to give you a little bit more room inside another nice features back here.

This is the back side of the tent. It’s got this little piece of kind of almost cardboard e material, and you just put this here and it basically creates a little tent okay. So you can allow plenty of circulation. It’s got mesh back here behind it. You can’t see that, but this just gives you a little bit of ventilation. Nice little touch so here it is fully staked out pretty much it’s not perfect by any means, but quickly done.

You can see it’s very nice tent. It does come with two additional stakes and you can pull out. There’s two pull outs, one here, one on the other side. You can pull it out to give yourself a little more room. I didn’t put those up. So that’s a very quick look at the nature. Hike cloud up to upgraded version, we talked about what the upgrade means. It’s those two Y’s on the poles themselves. I think it does aid the tent itself have more room inside very, very nice added feature.

First, impressions of this tent are its pretty high quality. Obviously, it’s not as high quality, something you’re going to spend four or five hundred dollars on, but the whole point of the tent is that you don’t want to spend four or five hundred dollars. If you take care of this tent, I think it’s going to last. You a long time if you abuse it and you don’t take good care of it. You don’t prepare the floor.

Well, you lets things. Stick up underneath it like any tent you’re going to ruin it you’re, going to ruin it fast. If you take care of it, though you’re in good shape, zippers are well-made. The tie outs are all very good. I really like the fact that both the ground tarp and the tent body itself have the clip ons. So, like I said earlier, if you want to take this tent out, you don’t have to worry about bugs.

You don’t need the actual tent body you can take. Just the ground sheet and the fly pop it together and you’re going to have just about a two pound shelter which isn’t too bad it’s relatively lightweight. Overall, I think you can trim the weight down in particular, I think the best place is first of all. Is the ground tarp itself? I think you can use Tyvek or something a lot lighter for this, and it will work a lot better.

You also can just choose your site really really well and make sure if it’s just a grassy site, you don’t need a ground sheet. That would be great, but you need to know where you’re backpacking to make sure you can do that. The other big area I think you can save is on the tent stakes. These tent stakes, like I said, they’re, eight stakes, they’re about four and a half ounces. You can easily cut that back to about two ounces or even less.

If you get titanium stakes, I recommend their carbon fiber stakes, I’ll, put a link down below to them. You can buy them at Z, pax dot-com, they’re by point two ounces each and what I like about them is their have a thicker diameter. The titanium stakes like the little hooks, if you tie things down pretty tight, you can easily bend those, especially if you have really really hard soil, so I would suggest those carbon fiber ones.

I think they’re better they’re about, like I said, point 2 ounces. So you can do the whole set of eight if you need eight four, some two ounces, which is a pretty good savings when it comes to four and a half ounces with the ones that come with the ten itself. Some people will look at this tent and they’ll say it’s a knockoff and it kind of is, I mean there’s no doubt about it, but here’s the thing: it gives accessibility to people to be able to buy relatively lightweight gear and use it if you’re needing to Wait to spend four to five hundred dollars on a Big Agnes or something like that.

That’s great! If you can okay, but most people can’t and if you’re going to go out and enjoy the outdoors, especially with your kids, you need to have the money to do it and if you can get more lightweight stuff like this at a reasonable price, not the lightest Weight but reasonable, I think it’s the way to go. I appreciate nature Heights. Sending this out to me. I’m definitely going to get some use out it check down below I’ll, give you a link to the Amazon store where they sell other stuff as well check them out, and I think it’s pretty good quality very good price and if you take care of it it’ll Last you a long time well guys it has officially gotten hot and I’m ready to get out of here.

Ultralight! – Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 – Trail Review

My name is Luke. This is the outdoor gear review and after travelling all around the country backpacking with this tent I’m ready to pass on my review. This is the Big Agnes tiger wall, ultralight to tent. Go ahead and get comfortable, let’s get started now: let’s go over some stats while I set up the tent. This is an ultralight three season, backpacking tent, which comes in at two pounds: eight ounces: this is a two-person tent.

The retail price is four hundred dollars and when you’re looking at the pack size, you were looking at 18 inches long by five and a half inches. It features two doors: two vestibules it utilizes a DAC, aluminum feather-light, pole, 8.7 millimeters in diameter. The rain fly is a ripstop nylon. The floor material is also a ripstop nylon. You get eight aluminum stakes and the canopy material is ripstop nylon with a polyester mesh, so the tents been set up.

Let’s take a look at the features, namely those on the outside. With the fly, as you can see the material here, you can somewhat see through it, but you do have complete privacy. You don’t have to worry about anything like that on this side, you have two guy lines going around. You have a door. This does have a storm flap over the zipper which is velcroed into place. You do have two-way YKK zippers, so you can open this multiple ways going around to the back side.

This is the foot box area. You have one guide line, tie off point and then go into the other side. You have the other door vestibule and the same sort of features. Now when it comes to the set up process, it really doesn’t get any easier than this. Everything is color-coded, it makes sense. You can get this thing up in less than five minutes. Just like that, when the weather is good, you can roll back the doors inside the tent.

You have lots of space. I will grab the tape measure here in just a second. We will go over the measurements on the inside as far as pockets go. You have three pockets, one up above your head, one on the left side, one on the right side, and that is all you can’t purchase a gear caddy for this tent, but I wouldn’t for this price. It should be included. This tent features a bathtub floor, so it is fully waterproof.

All of the seams are taped there sealed that goes for the floor, and that goes the fly as well all right. So, let’s check out the dimensions starting up here where your head will be. That is right at 50 and a half inches it has a peak height of 36 inches at the foot box. You were looking at 40 inches wide with a height of 20 inches when it comes to overall length. You are looking at 83 inches, so we’ve take a look at the tent here.

We’ve set it up, let’s start with the review. First off: let’s talk about the price. This is actually a pro for this tent for $ 400. I cannot think of a comparable, ultralight tent. That is this light and this feature of rich. I can’t think of a single competitor that comes close to what you get here. Yes, four hundred dollars is a lot of money, but you are getting a very well-made. Ultralight tent that can handle a good deal of weather, wind rain and so on.

The build quality is truly excellent inside and out. This is what you would expect for a $ 400 tent and Big. Agnes does not disappoint here. All of this stitches, the seams. Everything is absolutely perfect. There is a huge difference in quality from a tent like this when compared to a very inexpensive 10 we’ve take a look at tons of those. Some of them are actually pretty good, but the difference in quality is substantial.

You will have loose threads all over the place. You can actually just pull them out and all sorts of other issues with the tiger wall. Ultralight. You have none of those issues for being an ultralight tent. This does offer you quite a bit of space for two people. Oftentimes. When you have these ultralight tents, that’s claimed to be two people, there’s really not enough space, but in this one there definitely is.

You can get two full-sized sleeping pads inside of this, and you could sleep just fine. Each user will have their own door and vestibule for gear storage entering and exiting. I would say this if you and the buddy that you’re going camping with are large individuals having the three-person version of this tent might come in handy as it will give you a little bit more space to enjoy. Without a doubt.

This is a three season tent. The materials are very thin. I would not take this into the fourth season 3 season – oh yeah, no doubt about it. This can handle the rain it can handle the storms – and I have put this through numerous storms and rainstorms, and it has really done well. I’ve had no issues with leaking. I’ve had no issues with water coming through the floor or anything like that with strong winds.

I have stayed dry in this tent now talking about my experiences with this tent. I have taken this bad boy all over the country I took this domain, use that on the coast to go backpacking with I’ve, used it in Virginia Tennessee and actually South Carolina. Just recently with my buddy Chris – and I, this tent has held up very very well with all of my adventures and there’s not a whole lot to complain about here.

There is one issue that is super irritating and why don’t we go ahead and talk about that? Right now, this tent features pre-cut guidelines. Essentially, what this means is that the company has gone ahead and cut your guidelines to a very short length, and that is absolutely fine if you’re laying on a very flat and perfect platform. But if you’re, not if the ground is uneven, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to set this tent up correctly so check this out.

You could see these main guidelines here, one for the fly one for the body. Look at how short these are right. So, let’s keep moving around here’s the guidelines on the other side, so going down here’s the guidelines right here for this tent to be pitched tightly for it to be taut. These stakes can only be it to the ground, only an inch or two. Otherwise, it would completely deform this tent because the guidelines were cut.

This short there’s no way to really get this to work if the ground is not, even if you plan on buying this tent plan on cutting your own guidelines and using those, because these are way too short, especially with the doors now when Sue’s – and I were Up in Maine – and it came time for tent site selection, there was only one spot and it was very uneven and because it was so uneven, we couldn’t actually stake out one of the doors.

This side was perfect, but the other side was up in the air. I’ve also had issues with those tiny guidelines coming untied on their own, so, in my opinion, they’re, not very good. Now some people would consider the very thin materials here with this tent to be a con. I would not. This was built for a very specific purpose and that is to go like that’s a go-fast. This is an ultra-light tent for an ultralight backpacker.

This is for someone who wants to cut pounds off of their sleep system, and you can definitely do that. So, in my opinion, yes, the materials are thin, but they’re, strong, they’re, waterproof and I’ve had no issues with my testing so far. Next up we have these stuffed bag storage bag. Here with the tent, this is just tight. This is very tight. It’s not the smallest! I’ve ever worked with, but it’s on the small side.

If you wake up in the morning – and you haven’t, had your coffee yet and you’re trying to roll this thing up and you don’t necessarily roll it super tight, it will not fit inside of this bag. I would personally like to see this just being a little bit larger next up, since this is a nylon tent, the materials will sag when they get wet some. What this is not a huge issue, it will sag that’s how it goes with nylon, tents.

I definitely have tents that sag worse than this, namely those from NEMA those really sag a lot. This will sag, but it’s not the worst. I’ve ever seen. The final con, which I will speak about is the zipper guard here. Yes, it does serve a purpose, but this could be extremely annoying, especially when this gets damp or wet. As you can see, the zipper functions very well, but when this material gets damp or wet it gets caught in the zipper non-stop, it is incredibly irritating.

That is pretty much it when it comes to the tiger wall, ultralight to tent from Big Agnes. All in all, this tent is a winner. In my opinion, this is a great tent I’ve enjoyed using it. It really has kept me safe and sound on numerous adventures. I have been testing this out for the last couple of months and it’s done really really well all over the country. I really can’t complain much about it. The guidelines are horrible.

Those need to be redone. If you purchase this tent, you can even use some shock cord, and that would work much better than what you got here. The flap does get caught when the doors are wet, but that happens with a lot of tents. If you are in the market for an ultra light tent for 400 bucks, this is not a bad option to consider, as mentioned before, there’s not many tents at this price range which will offer you so much oftentimes, comparable tents are much more expensive.

If you all have any questions for me, email me until next time, I will see you guys around strengthen honor, guys
